Humane Society Of Richland County – Happy Tails!

Happy Tails- Luna

Luna

Luna came to us with her rottweiler friend, Zara, completely emaciated and covered in mange. Her toes were pink from lack of hair, but the staff didn’t care they still thought she was adorable! With the help of a healthy appetite and some good old tlc, she was on the road to recovery, where she was destined to meet her new family.

Luna’s humans didn’t know what was in store for them. While small in frame, Luna is big in heart. And trouble. Sufficiently teaching her family just what was acceptable as a chew toy and what wasn’t, they’ve settled into a comfortable schedule, one where Luna demands her young charge to bed each night with the grace of any great nanny.

Technically still in Foster we all know we won’t be seeing Luna back. A great big thank you to Luna’s new family for their patience, understanding and eagerness to give this sweet girl a wonderful home.

Happy Tails- Birdie

Birdie

Birdie came to us from an abandonment case where her previous owner had left her in the middle of the summer heat trapped in a trailer. She spent a few days with a foster home waiting for a space available at the shelter and happily stole the hearts of the Shelter staff upon entering. A day was not complete until Birdie had had someone throw the tennis ball for her and she had caused mayhem to the cats. Incredibly talented, Birdie learned early on how one got around the lack of thumbs and opened doors through out her stay to give us sporadic greetings. Now with all that personality she was just waiting for the right someone to walk through our doors.

That someone came when a tragedy befell their best friend, Jack, a dog adopted from us some time ago. With the loss of Jack, he was in search of someone to help ease that pain. Birdie was just the one. She’s now happily taking over the home of her new best friend and family.

All the luck and best of wishes Birdie, You are a fantastic dog.

Happy Tails! – Sam

Sam - Before Photo
Sam was our first seizure as Humane Agents. He was emaciated and dehydrated with little to no human contact. His owner had left him with her ex-boyfriend who didn’t have time to feed or water him.

But check out Sam now! Yes, these two pictures are the same dog a few months apart.

Sam - After PhotoLook what regular meals and some love and attention can do. He looks so good and was such a favorite at the shelter that he is featured in our 2008 Humane Society calendar with the humane agents!

Sam was adopted by a great & loving family in Butler and spends his days giving & receiving love and attention and has anything he wants now. A true Happy Tail!

Happy Tails! – Miles

MilesMiles was abandoned in a trailer by his owner who moved to Florida and left him alone in the middle of winter.

The call came in during a snowstorm that almost shut down the city in 2006. Our Humane Agents could not make it to Miles in the Humane Society van, so they drove one of their personal vehicles, a 4X4 truck, in order to get him back to the shelter. His owner had left the stove open and on to keep the trailer warm. Miles could have been dead very easily if the trailer had caught on fire.

After almost a year Miles was adopted as a companion for a single man looking for a best friend leaving his story another Happy Tail!

Happy Tails! – Hogan

Hogan - Before PhotoHogan, a Great Dane, was taken in by our Humane Agents after a call came from north of Mansfield.

Hogan had made himself at home inside someone’s car and would not get out. The owner of the car was calling for our help. Humane agents Houghton and Rex proceeded to remove him from the compact car and the HS began caring for him.

Hogan - After PhotoHe had been on his own for quite a long time and had nothing in his stomach but weeds and grass.

Hogan was adopted by a wonderful lady and has a “brother” to share his very own furniture with, that is, when he’s not spending his days at doggy day care. Another Happy Tail!
